Social Justice and Education: Reflections of an Educator

  1. This is such a beautiful and powerful post! I love the way you frame our job as being educators for social justice. I found myself nodding along emphatically when you talked about your feeling of falling short and wanting to speak up more. I've shied away from posting about "hot topics" on my blog, but lately I've had to take a good hard look at WHY I haven't. My husband gets an earful of my thoughts on current events every day, but I want to be braver about putting them out there in the world, because having those discussions on a larger scale is so important. I have a voice, I have a blog, and I want to use both a little more passionately this year.

To warm up, I think I might make that hubby of mine do your lesson with me - never too old to analyze and discuss text! ;) Anyway, thank you for this post - I found it at exactly the right moment in my own soul-searching.

  2. Wow! I loved reading this and can't wait to share it with some educators I know. Thank you for sharing your voice, your ideas and your lesson.

  3. Wow! Every teacher needs to read this post. Thank you for speaking out about such an important issue!
